فیلم «اوپنهایمر» (Oppenheimer) به کارگردانی «کریستوفر نولان» یک اثر کم‌نقص بیوگرافیک از پدر بمب اتمی است. اوپنهایمر که در فصل جوایز سینمایی امسال مورد توجه مخصوص قرار گرفته حالا برای دریافت 13 جایزه اسکار نامزد شده است. فیلم دیگری که در این دوره از جوایز آکادمی درخشیده «طفلکی‌ها» (Poor Things) به کارگردانی «یورگوس لانتیموس» است که 11 بار نامزد دریافت جایزه شده. نامزدهای اسکار 2024 در حالی اعلام شدند که فهرست خالی از موارد غافل‌گیرکننده هم نبود.
فیلم «قاتلین ماه گل» (Killers of the Flower Moon) به کارگردانی «مارتین اسکورسیزی» هم 10 بار نامزد دریافت اسکار شده. این فیلم یک درام تاریخی جنایی است. همان ژانری که اسکورسیزی در آن مهارت زیادی دارد و به طور قطع می‌توان گفت یک شاهکار خلق کرده است.
فیلم «باربی» (Barbie) که موفق‌ترین فیلم سال گذشته در گیشه بود هم 8 نامزدی اسکار به دست آورده. در حالی که جای خالی «مارگو رابی» (Margot Robbie) در نامزدهای بهترین بازیگر زن دیده می‌شود. به هر حال این فیلم که بیش از 1 میلیارد دلار فروش داشت، در فصل جوایز هم نادیده نگرفته شده است. فیلم موفق سال گذشته در جشنواره فیلم کن، «آناتومی یک سقوط» (Anatomy of a Fall) هم موفق شده نامزد چند جایزه بشود. علاوه بر اسکار بهترین فیلم، بازیگر نقش اصلی این فیلم یعنی «ساندرا هولر» (Sandra Hüller) هم برای بازی بی‌نظیرش نامزد شده. همچنین «جاستین تریه» کارگردان فیلم هم در کنار اسکورسیزی، لانتیموس و نولان نامزد دریافت جایزه بهترین کارگردانی است.
